Estate Description:

These three cottages were once the 18th century estate’s two coach houses and the stable.  They have been beautifully renovated and are now charming holiday homes.  The three cottages are side-by-side, yet private.  The 38 acres of grounds have a lake, lawns, woods and gardens.  All three cottages have beautiful lake views.

Two 2-bedroom Cottages

2 Coach Houses – Each accommodates 4+1
2 bedroms in each coach house
2 bathrooms in each coach house

Enter a small hallway into an-open plan sitting/dining room.  The cottages are similarly furnished in a casual and comfortable style.  They aren’t flashy, but much care has been taken and good taste prevails.

The sitting/dining room has a comfortable red sofa and two red easy chairs facing a stone fireplace that has a wood stove insert.  A very nice armoire holds books and brochures with information about local attractions.  There is satellite TV.  The dining table seats 4 comfortably in front of a large window that overlooks the grounds.

The modern kitchen is bright and efficient.  It has pine cabinets, a granite counter top, an oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer.  French doors open onto a patio that has a dining table and chairs.  There is direct access accross the wide lawn to the lake.

Each cottage has two bedrooms.  One bedroom has a queen bed and a twin bed, both iron and brass.  Pine cupboards provide excellent storage.  The en suite bathroom has a tub with shower over tub.
The second bedroom has twin beds, both brass, and excellent storage.  The en suite bathroom has a shower.

Four–bedroom Stables Cottage

Accommodates 8 + 1
4 bedroms
4 bathrooms

This is a newer renovation that perfectly complements the two older coach houses.  It is beautiful, serene, comfortable and stylish. Enter directly into the open-plan kitchen/sitting/dining room.  There is a cathedral ceiling with dark beams and a triangle window at each end of the room.  The sitting area has two red love seats, 2 easy chairs, a stone fireplace with a wood stove insert, satellite TV.  Four tall windows look onto the lake.  French doors open onto a patio area that faces the lake.  There is a barbecue and a picnic table and chairs on the patio.

The kitchen area has many pine cupboards and a tall pine armoire.  A bar with four tall stools is perfect for breakfast or a snack.  There is an oven, a hob, refrigerator/-freezer, microwave, washer and dryer.  Dishes and serving items are well-chosen.  The long cherry wood dining table seats 8 on black-upholstered high-back chairs.

One bedroom has an antique iron and brass queen bed that’s covered with a beautiful brown and tan wool patchwork quilt.  Other furniture provides excellent storage.  French doors open onto the pebbled driveway and the gardens and lawn.  The en suite bathroom has a shower that is adapted for wheel chair users – or anyone who needs stability bars.  It is tasteful and efficient.

The second bedroom also has an antique iron and brass queen bed.  It is covered with a brown and beige wool patchwork quilt that is similar to the quilt in the first bedroom.  Storage furniture is attractive.  This bed room also has a French door onto the graveled driveway and the lawn area.  The en suite bathroom has a shower.

Two more bedrooms are down the hall. One bedroom has a standard double bed plus a twin bed.  Both beds are covered in beige and cream cotton quilts.  A French door opens to the front.  The en suite bathroom has a shower.

The grounds hardly seem to matter with the expanse of the ocean outside this Irish vacation rental, but there is a lovely side garden next to the house with grassy lawn with more of the wild blue sea beyond. From here there are steps down to a protected sandy cove below the house, with sandy and pebbled beach walks available from there.

This vacation rental is in terrific position for touring County Clare, Limerick and Galway, perhaps parts of County Kerry and County Cork on a longer day (and  with some of the best scenery in Ireland, why not?).  The estate is positioned close to the Quin Abbey ruins, close to national treasures like the lunar landscapes of the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher. There are several 18-hole golf courses within half hours drive of the proprty. The gorgeous beaches of Clare and Galway are close, as is the River Shannon, all with boating, fishing and watersports to enjoy.

Between the views, the archaeological sites, and the heritage centers, there is no shortage of things to do and see in this part of the country.

Ireland is short on full-scale cities, but Galway and Limerick are close by, with about a thousand small villages and towns to explore in the radius between them. Doolin and Lisdoonvarna on the coast are excellent destinations for music and good craic.

There are several fantastic self-drive and walking tours in the area.

Cliffs of Moher– some of the most recognizable cliffs in the world. Stunning.
The Burren – lunar, rocky, archaic, haunting. Flora unique to Ireland, underground streams and caves that are open for public exploration.  It is an area that can’t really be described well, one must walk along the low, quiet, stone and lichen covered landscape to understand what it’s all about (and even then, won’t be able to take  in enough of the flavor to hold inside after stepping away). Trust us. Take a short drive out into this natural wonder. Send us a postcard, tell us if we’re wrong about this. (We can take it.)

Just next door is a riding center with horses and lessons for hire. Within driving distance is the Connemara region of County Galway, famous for gorgeous scenery, yes, but more so the Connemara ponies.

This part of Clare is rich with archaeological sites, including castles, stone circles and standing stones. Within sight of the property is an Abbey ruin, and there are other castle keeps and ruins in the vicinity to explore. On the fancier end of history are the various castle hotels like Adare Manor and Dromoland castle. There is a large heritage castle property about 10 minutes away, offering nightly medieval banquets and great fun. A little further is Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, an O’Disneyland for kids and grown ups alike, with reenactments and life size dioramas depicting historical scenes of life at the castle long, long ago, plus a pretty terrific gift shop featuring local silversmith jewelry and artisan wares.

Speaking of artisan wares, Adare is a lovely village for shoppers, Limerick and Galway have many shops, and most villages have specialty shops of some variety to entice bargain hunters and serious collectors alike.

Lahinch Golf Club – 18-hole championship course by the sea, with famous holes “Klondyke” and “Dell” among them.
Dromoland Golf & Country Club
Galway Bay
Connemara Golf Club
Ennis Golf Club

Aran Islands – boat out to the islands or go deep sea angling off their coastline.
Sixmilebridge – lake fishing.
Shannon Estuary – boat hire and guided treks available.

There is no shortage of opportunities for fun in the Irish summer sun, and exciting outdoor activities through every season. We can send you loads of information about planning your outdoor adventures while in Clare.
