Large Group Accommodation in London for the 2012 Games
We have two larger self-catering houses that will fit groups of 7 – 8, and several high-end luxury apartments in Knightsbridge that will accommodate large groups together. In addition, we have several apartments that are located in the same building or on adjacent blocks in the same garden square for travellers wishing to be close to one another on holiday.
More Rental Accommodations and Properties for the London Games:
We have more properties available than are currently up on the site. Please inquire with us, including your Olympics accommodation requirements and we’ll send you a list of options to fit your needs. Note that the larger properties sleeping 6 are going fast, those accommodating 8 are basically all booked already. For larger groups of 8, 10, 12, we can offer two property rentals in close proximity to each other.
Rental Rates for the Olympics in London:
As of now, prices for rentals during period of July 23 – August 13 will be up to double their usual rates, and have booked quickly. We are encouraging our owners to keep their prices steady, but there is a chance that some may decide to increase the rates even more as the summer approaches and availability decreases. At one point most were requiring booking in week long chunks (not just 7 night minimum with pro-rated days beyond seven), where properties could be booked one week, two weeks or three weeks over the Olympics period between 23 July and 13 August. However, as time passes, owners of the smaller flats especially are beginning to lighten up on this requirement, returning to the original 7 night minimum standards.
Be prepared to pay the full rental price up front, rather than the customary 50% deposit. Our recommendations: Book early if at all possible because our London properties do fill up, pretty much across the board each year in the summer months around Wimbledon and equestrian events, so we are anticipating an even bigger shortage for the Olympic festivities this summer, even with the large increases in rental prices for the period.
Getting Around During the Games:
The London 2012 Games are planned to be accessed primarily by public transport and there will be no parking at the events (except pre-purchased accessible blue pass spots). Transport options for the games and events are listed on the official London 2012 site. There is a great interactive site set up for planning trips to the various Olympic event sites. Included in the options are Games Travel Cards that cover the full zones 1 – 9 of the London tube, buses, trams and the National rail service.
Accessibility and the Olympics:
Elegant Retreats offers a few flats and homes that are fully accessible, and several that are not fully accessible but perhaps have ground floor bedroom and bathroom options, or as short flight of exterior steps, etc. The reality, however, is that accessible self-catering properties are quite hard to come by due to multi-level walk-up flats and houses, and lack of elevator retrofits in the older architecture of historic London. We do have several serviced apartment-hotel properties that are accessible, in addition to the few accessible houses and flats. We do our best to offer options to accommodate clients with mobility limitations throughout the city.
The official Olympics site offers very detailed information about accessible travel options for visitors getting to and around the various Olympic events. This resource lists accessible tube stations, options for disabled parking permits, and some general information about what to expect at the games if in a wheelchair or if travelling without assistance.
