Flat Description:

A spacious, bright & light 2-bedroom apartment in a red brick peppermint striping mansion block situated between Hyde Park and Holland Park off of Kensington High Street and Kensington Church Street. Tall windows line the sitting room, with views out to typical London rooftops and architecture. This is an excellent family flat, casual, fully carpeted, warm, and bright, with two comfortable bedrooms (one King and one trundle/twin room) and a shared family bathroom conveniently located off the main hallway. Perfectly lovely.

There are 6 brick steps from the street into the building, then 30 steps up from the ground floor to the front door of the apartment on the second floor (3rd story). There is also the elevator (lift), but it’s really not too terrible of a climb. A quirky electricity saving device in the interior building stairwell requires that you hit a button on the wall at each landing in order to illuminate the next short flight of steps. You’ll get used to it quickly (or give it as an important job to a youngster traveling with you – distract & conquer).

A short flight of three steps leads from the entry inside the flat up to a small interior hallway from which all rooms open. To the left are the two bedrooms, to the immediate right is the family bathroom and the kitchen and to the far right is the spacious open sitting/dining room.

Three tall, wide windows overlook the tops of Kensington buildings beyond, filling the room with light. The large, open room is probably 20 feet across, and decorated simply and comfortably by someone with an eye for interesting, perhaps disparate design elements reflective of all the various cultural influences brought to bear on colonial Great Britain over the years.

A large clock face on the wall hints at London’s own famous timekeeping tower, while the area rug and red lacquer coffee table bring a feeling of the Far East. An authoritative studded brown leather armchair is a very comfy throwback to the smoking jackets and “brandy in the parlor with the menfolk” days of the empire. A small tufted foot pillow (our guide called it a “Poof” and yes, we asked her to repeat herself to make sure) and the wide-bottomed soft grey linen sofa lend an air of modern British design, the throw pillows evoke India batik and the blue green accents compliment the seafoam/Caribbean green of the backsplash peeking out from the opening into the kitchen. Unobtrusive accent items dot the room, like three small terra cotta pots on a shelf, and a simple pillar-style side table.

Built-in bookshelves offer great storage space. The 50″ flatscreen television is almost anachronistic. Try turning your back to gaze out over the typical rooftop views that feel totally and timelessly London.

The open dining area to the left of the main sitting room, is located between the pass-through opening into the kitchen, and the broad light windows. A large mirror hangs over the table, offering both more reflective light and a greater sense of space in an already large and open room.

The broad wooden table in a light wood is surrounded by 6 high backed wooden chairs and seats 6 comfortably.

The moderately-sized kitchen, like the rest of the flat, is simply and nicely done, and filled with light. All white and fairly modern in style, there is an oven, stovetop, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and clothes washer (no dryer).

The bedrooms are situated just off the geometric hallway to the left of the entry.

Master King Bedroom: A simple room primarily filled by the 6′ King size bed with soft molded headboard and plenty of built-in closets and storage space. Done in neutral colors, and comfortable, this room also has a large window looking out to trees and the pretty brickwork buildings typical of the area. The ceilings are tall, lending the cozy room a sense of spaciousness.

Twin (Trundle) Bedroom
: A sturdy single bed with trundle, large window, dresser and good size built-in closet make up the second bedroom. Perfect for kids or singles sharing. The beds can be pushed together, of course, but they are not a typical zip-and-link.

Across from the kitchen and between the sitting room and the bedrooms, the family bathroom is cozy, with an extra long, narrow, deep bathtub, shower-over-tub, toilet and sink.


The nearest underground stop is Kensington High Street, approximately a 4 to 5-minute walk. The Notting Hill Gate tube station is nearly as close, 9 or 10 minutes.

Incredible location, quiet, yet just off the High Street and the tube. There is a Marks and Spencers right at the end of the street so it was very handy for food. Walk to practically everywhere. If you like to cycle there is a Bixi Bike Rental right outside at the town hall. Close to Hyde Park, Knightsbridge, Tube, Shopping. Really couldn’t be better located for all the shops, coffee shops and restaurants in the area are just a few steps out the front.


No pets, and no smoking allowed at this bright and spacious holiday rental home.

Rental Details:

Minimum 7-night rental, from any arrival day (not limited to Saturdays). Nights booked beyond the minimum 7 will be pro-rated at the weekly rate.

Included in the rental price is the cost of heat & electricity, use of appliances, weekly linen change if staying longer than 7 nights, departure cleaning, and a Greeter who meet you at the flat to show you around, introduce you to the particulars of the property, the appliances, and answer any questions you have.

Arrivals before 8:30am or after 4:30pm will require transfer service (car hire from the airport or train station) with our London transfer partners. Your driver will have the keys to your flat and will let you in. The Greeter will be by the following morning.

Security Deposit:

The property requires a security/damage deposit between £ 350 – £ 1000 to be held by credit card until after departure. The Greeter who meets you on arrival will return at departure to check you out of the property at the end of your stay.

Accessibility Notice:

The Hornton Street flat is on the third story (called the “Second Floor” in Great Britain) and there is a lift, however there are several steps from the front street to the entry, as well as a few steps into the flat from the landing, so is only suitable for those who can manage stairs a few times daily.


Kensington is a grand area, with Kensington Palace, Kensington Royal Gardens, and Hyde Park bordering this beautiful residential area. The gardens and grounds are open to everyone, and terrific places to explore.  Holland Park offers golfing, Japanese gardens, and a large outdoor adventure playground area.

Kensington High Street is filled with designer storefronts, antique shops, and boutiques. Portobello Road Market in Notting Hill is quite close, as are all the popular (Victoria and Albert, Natural History, Science) and lesser known (London Toy and Model, Branding) museums. Nearby Holland Park and Notting Hill have parks and restaurants and shopping galore.

Central London, the theater district, shopping,site-seeing attractions and museums (National Portrait Gallery, The British Museum) are all just a quick tube ride away.
