Knightsbridge was once a lush forest, of which about 600 acres remain: Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, two of London’s treasures. The neighborhood is dense with a mix of red brick mansion blocks, early Victorian terraces and mews houses clustered around some of the most famous shopping in the world, including Harrods and Harvey Nichols. Old Brompton Road and Sloane Street is an upmarket shopping nirvana and flagship couture stores abound.
The real estate in here is top notch, and competition is fierce. Fourteen of London’s most expensive streets circle through Knightsbridge. The world’s most expensive apartment was reportedly purchased by a Quatari prince for close to one hundred million pounds in 2007. Because of the exclusivity, the architecture and attention to detail, the shopping, the cafes and the people watching, walking around Knightsbridge is a feast for the senses, something of interest for every sort of traveler to see, do, or experience.
Bordered by South Kensington and Belgravia, Knightsbridge is a perfect location for visiting London – the tube stop is close no matter where you are situated here: the museum district is adjacent (with Brompton Oratory, Victoria and Albert museum, Natural History and Science museums all close at hand), the West End, theater district and Kensington are all easily accessible. Notting Hill is a lovely walk through Kensington Park.
