One of our very favorites in London, one of us actually gasped when she walked into this grand South Kensington 2nd-story flat. The light through the floor-to-ceiling windows is stunning, and the view through the trees to the parkscape beyond gives a momentary sense of being in a tree house. It’s a feast for you your eyes in this flat, from the decor to the garden views and greenery outside.
The furnishings in the living room all have a luxurious, tactile pleasure about them, from the velvety apple-green curtains to the lacquer on the antique cabinets around the room.
The large, high ceilinged space is well-appointed with plenty of comfortable seating, a gas fireplace, interesting antiques, wood floors, and of course the windows we can’t stop talking about. There is a small television with DVD and cable.
The large eat-in kitchen is as fanciful as it is functional. A large oak table on one side of a granite-topped island seats 4 to 8, and for the weary cook there’s a luxe antique “fainting couch” with a small table in front of a gas fireplace across the room.
The fridge/freezer is large and stainless steel, the white cupboards are filled with lovely, unique dishes and serve ware. There is a microwave and all of the thoughtful utensils one needs to cook a terrific meal, or simply enjoy relaxing with take-away.
The washer and dryer are in a hall cupboard adjacent to the kitchen.
This two-bedroom, two-bathroom flat is terrific for couples and singles traveling together. Not only are there two en-suite bath rooms, but the bedrooms each have a King bed that can convert to two twin beds, making it a very flexible and accommodating flat indeed.
Each bedroom features lovely antiques, decorative fireplace, storage, and doors that open to a small ornamental balcony overlooking the garden square across the street. The bookshelves are lined with interesting books.
Both bedrooms are en-suite, and the master bedroom (green headboard) has both a bathtub and a shower stall, while the other bathroom has a shower stall.
The nearest underground stop is Gloucester Road, approximately an 8-minute stroll. The South Kensington station is nearly as close, 9 or 10 minutes.
There is a terrific Farmer’s Market just a few blocks away on Bute Street (Saturdays 9am – 2pm) where you can mingle with local residents and pick up flowers, artisan foods, fresh meat, fish, produce and baked goods.
No small children, no pets, and no smoking allowed at this lovely home away from home.
